The government will never contact taxpayers by phone to obtain unpaid taxes. If someone contacts you claiming to be from an official body (or a bank), tell them you will call them back – but use the number on their website or on official correspondence, such as a tax reminder.
Fraudsters call you, but hang up as soon as it starts ringing to trick victims into calling back a number that incurs premium-rate charges, some as high as $15 a call. Never call a number back just because it called you. If a phone call is genuinely important, the caller should leave you a voicemail message.
Fraudsters call claiming to be from the Australian Government Department of Human Services. They then claim you’re due a backdated pension payout of $5,000. But to get the money released you would have to pay $200. Even though they might often sound believable, knowing your name & home address, hang up and check with the AGDHS. immediately.
You get a call from a supposed police officer saying they have found a stolen bank card that appears to be yours and then asks you to confirm your account details. You are then passed on to another number, your bank’s “anti-fraud team”. Who ask for more information so that eventually the fraudsters have all the details they need to raid your account. Remember, the police never call a suspected crime victim to ask them to confirm their bank details.

I highly recommend this product. My current number of items in my Block List is up to 35 and the junk calls have gone from 5-10 per day to 1-2 per week. I purchased the CPR V5000 one month ago and entered the "Additional Blocking Features" on page 7 of the User Guide and really enjoy hitting the big red BLOCK NOW button. Minor comments on the user guide: I was initially confused the description of the two counters. The large font number (to the left center of the display) is NOT the "number of calls blocked" (as shown twice on page 5) but is actually "the amount of numbers that have been added to the block list" (as shown at the bottom of page 5). The smaller font counter in the upper right corner does display "the number of times a blocked number has tried to call", but only when you select the "Block List" and scroll through each blocked number and you get the number of times for each blocked number. Otherwise the smaller font counter matches the larger font counter. It would be interesting to know what the total number of all calls have been blocked..

Ahhhhh.... Peace and Quite since we have received this GEM....! I highly recommend it. It is extremely easy to set and more important than anything else, IT WORKS.... Bye, bye telemarketers and robocalls.... If you want to own your telephone again and get away from all of those annoying sales, promotion & political calls, then do yourself a favor and buy one of these. Virtually all of those annoying calls are already programmed into the machine so you really don't have to do anything other than plug it in. If, by chance, you do get an annoying call, just hit the Red Button and they are blocked from then on, or if you pick up an extension phone, you can press #2 while the number is on the screen and they are added to the memory of the machine and blocked from then on. You can block up to 1,500 yourself and this is in addition to the 5,000 they have programmed it... One of the best products I have bought in a long, long time....

After having used the CPR5000 for a month or so, I can safely say I am very satisfied. With all the preprogrammed numbers already blocked, and the additional programming you can do, I have only had to block 24 individual numbers in more than a month of use ! My phone rarely rings ! It's almost like the old " Maytag " Repair Man TV Commercial. There were a couple of little set up changes I needed to make for full functionality, but I was able to complete those using the CPR Web Site Chat Service. Their Service was exceptional and very helpful. My only wish for the product would be that you could block a number using a portable hand held phone from the phone call list rather than having to answer it to block ( or using the CPR Base ). If you answer the live call, the #2 function from the portable works just fine. Overall I am very satisfied.
